Snow in October in Virginia

Hello, did not lose power as many people did. I baked cookies during the snow and finished editing a large section in the book. I am trying to figure out how to size pictures for my book cover so my publisher can use them.

I have discovered that intelligence is just trying things over until you succeed. Like when I was poor and had to figure out how to fix the sink without money. Now, I can fix a sink. Soon, I will be intelligent enough to design book covers.

Book Formats

As I gathered my books I like to read, I realized I like the ones with short chapters. Reading is a relaxation for me, so long chapters tends to create a desire to skip ahead. However, more chapters for writers means more pages if every chapter has to start on the right hand page. If you are self publishing, this means more cost. Some publishers charge a set price for a certain amount of pages, so this might not affect the cost. For example, if the charge is $300.00 for 50 to 100 pages, and  $400.00 for 101 to 200 pages, this allows for flexibility in formatting.

pictures and cover

Hello, today I designed a cover for my book. I used pictures and worked in Picasso. One problem is that the pictures have to be 300 DPI in order to be sharp enough for publication.

The one I want to use has a resolution of 92. Does anyone know if DPI and resolution are synonymous? Does anyone know if a place like Office Max could scan it in high resolution so it would be 300 DPI? I would appreciate any advice on this.Thanks.

Today I wrote about being stuck on a barn roof at seven years old. I prefer to write pages and pages and then go back to spell check and edit. I have long excerpts with no chapter completions, as I tend to lose my mojo if I stop before my mind is ready to put on the brakes.

Took a break and hiked up the power lines. Good way to get my mind free. I think better in the open air. Just don't always remember my great ideas by the time I get home. Guess I need to bring a tape recorder (one more thing to remember while I'm trying to run or walk in the mountain air.

The book I did not plan to write

While I was planning and writing a thriller, my sister kept urging me to write my life story. A little over a year ago, I began this story. The opening came quickly and easily though I did have difficulty finding time because of working full time. I had six weeks off in the summer and that helped. The beginning took me back to running barefoot on a farm in Pierrepont, NY with a teacher for a grandmother and a farmer for father.

The Thriller still sits waiting.
