Book Excerpt VI


We struggled through that winter, but spring blossomed anyway, melting the snow off the roads, and filling the air with the scent of lilacs and fresh mountain rain. Hatchets and tree climbing made way for cheerleading and boy watching. My competitive nature ran rampant in softball, basketball, cheerleading, and touch football. The woods stayed. It always stayed. ”
