when i see through holy empty
will i know the reason
for the scars left by the
raging rivers of my life.
when the rose opens to the sun
in full regalia
do i see the beauty emerge from darkness.
when i stretch my arms to You,
does the river tame in reverent

Do you know these people?

Other winter activities included building fires on the lake, and cooking hotdogs and marshmallows washed down with hot chocolate. We tobogganed down Golf Course hill and Blueberry Hill, and snowshoed through the woods. I loved my town, my school, my friends, and my woods, but I dreaded going home where sometimes, sleep came slow.

Lakeside Lodge

I was nine years old when everyone except me moved to the new place. My father bought a restaurant business called Lakeside Lodge in Long Lake, NY, but I went to my favorite Aunt Doe and Uncle Dave Disotell’s house in Tupper Lake, NY for what I thought might be forever, but turned out to be one month. I loved that time with them, and my Uncle John, who was caretaker of a massive park between Long Lake and Tupper Lake called Robin Wood. I called it Robin Hood since that was my favorite story. I loved the idea of Robin Hood breaking the law to help the underdog.

Book Excerpt.Sheer Terror

Don’t you think my family will miss me?” There was no response…only the whistling. I grabbed the gun. He looked over at me and smiled. Then he reached in his pocket and pulled out the shotgun shells. I did not want to die, and I was terrified of the dark well. My mind searched frantically for a way out and when Stewart slowed down to round the next curve, I jumped out and started running.

Book Excerpt-Sneaking kisses at the skating rink

We carried our skates to school draped over our shoulders; put them in our lockers, and after school raced down the path to the skating rink where we played ice games, flirted with boys, and stole kisses behind the bench. The rink was the bomb. It was where you went to see everybody, even adults at night. I recall many beautiful snowy nights figure skating around the rink, looking up at the lights, and loving this place ringed by giant snow laden conifers. I felt safe and free as I twirled high in the icy air and sailed away backwards on one skate. I felt beautiful, strong, and fearless in the dark night illuminated by the rink lights and the circle of white snow surrounding the icy mirror in this remote fairyland.

Rink with hotel in background. Recognize anyone??

I came in the door with my two grandsons and there it was laying on my porch, wrapped in brown paper sitting there all alone left by the UPS driver who is scared of my big black dog but brings my packages up on the porch anyway. God Bless UPS drivers.

Anyway, I ran out grabbed it, looked at Daniel, my oldest grandson, and said, "I want you to open it." I wanted them to be the first to see it, and they were. Daniel pulled it out and I said read what it says.

He read "Blunt Force Winds," and he looked down at the bottom and read Gail Huntley. Then, he looked at me and said "Oh my gosh, a published book. My grandma did a published book!" And then there was more, "Wow, I'm in a book," from both of them when I showed them their pictures inside the book.
