St Regis Fire detailed in book, Blunt Force Winds

The St Regis Hotel Fire in Saranac Lake, NY on a bitter cold Tuesday morning January 14, 1964. My children's father was in that fire and had to jump from the window. He said he was the last person out of the building. The fire broke out around 8:30 in the morning so some people were still sleeping. He and another man were injured when they jumped into the tarp. The newspaper said it was because it was too close to the ground, but he told me that it was because there were not enough available men to hold the tarp securely. He went to the room next door, retrieved a man and woman and led them to his windowed room. They had to push the frightened woman out the window. She was followed by the man and then him. I met him about six months after the fire.
